Creating Places for Everyone Steering Group
Expression of Interest Form

Hidden questions

Locality has been awarded funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to establish a new anti-racist research project – Creating Places for Everyone. The project aims to be a key step in understanding the particular role of place-based community organisations in the fight for racial justice and the different perspectives and practices among Locality members.

The insight and expertise of those with lived experience of racial inequity is vital to ensuring the project’s success. While Locality is ultimately responsible for delivery, we therefore want to work closely with a Steering Group of Locality members from Black and racially minoritised backgrounds, to co-create the project alongside the Locality policy team.

Participants on the project Steering Group will play a vital role in shaping and developing the project. We will be keen to agree with the Group the exact nature of their role in the project from the outset. We envisage this including:
  • shaping the research framework and key milestones of the project,
  • advising on the most appropriate choice of language,
  • acting as a critical friend,
  • helping to ensure the research has a practical focus,
  • flagging any concerns, issues, risks etc. which need to be addressed,
  • building long term impact for the project.
Members of the Steering Group will be expected to attend three half day meetings taking place within the lifetime of the project (currently envisage lasting nine months). Dates and times will be determined based on member availability. The meetings will be held online.

There is a budget available to backfill Steering Group members’ time. Your organisation will receive £250 remuneration for each half day meeting you attend.

The Steering Group will comprise up to eight Locality members who are:
  • People of colour.
  • Experienced in place-based working.
  • Essentials or Membership Plus members.
Membership is open to trustees, volunteers, or paid staff members of all levels.

If you are a Locality Network member who would be interested in joining the Steering Group, we have a small number of bursaries for the cost of Essentials membership for community organisations run mainly by and for people from Black and racially minoritised groups. If you are interested in applying for this bursary – in general or in the context of joining the Steering Group - please email members@locality.org.uk.

If you feel you meet the above criteria and are interested in becoming a member of this Steering Group, please complete and submit this form. If you think anyone in your organisation might be interested in becoming a member of the steering group, please feel free to pass this expression of interest form on to them to submit.
